Early History

The KOSB can trace its origins back to the formation of the Royal Scots Regiment in 1633. The regiment was initially raised to support the Covenanters in their struggle against King Charles I. After the Restoration in 1660, the regiment was re-formed as the Royal Regiment of Foot, and it served in Ireland and Flanders.

In 1758, the regiment was redesignated as the 25th Regiment of Foot. The regiment saw action in the American Revolutionary War, and it was present at the Battle of Bunker Hill. In 1782, the regiment was awarded the title "King's Own" in recognition of its distinguished service.

The Napoleonic Wars

The KOSB played a distinguished role in the Napoleonic Wars. The regiment fought at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815, and it was one of the regiments that charged the French Imperial Guard. The regiment also served in the Peninsular War and the War of 1812.

The Victorian Era

During the Victorian era, the KOSB served in a number of conflicts, including the Crimean War and the Second Anglo-Afghan War. The regiment also served in India, where it was involved in the Indian Mutiny.

The First World War

The KOSB served with distinction in the First World War. The regiment fought in a number of major battles, including the Battle of the Somme and the Battle of Passchendaele. The regiment also served in Mesopotamia and Palestine.

The Second World War

The KOSB again served with distinction in the Second World War. The regiment fought in a number of major campaigns, including the Battle of France, the North African Campaign, and the Italian Campaign. The regiment also served in Burma and India.

Post-war History

After the Second World War, the KOSB served in a number of roles, including peacekeeping duties in Cyprus and Northern Ireland. The regiment also served in the Falklands War in 1982.

In 2006, the KOSB was merged with the Royal Scots Regiment to form the Royal Regiment of Scotland. However, the KOSB continues to exist as a battalion within the new regiment.
