The Revolutionary War

When the Revolutionary War broke out in 1775, Marion joined the Continental Army. He quickly rose through the ranks, and he soon became a colonel. One of Marion's most famous exploits was the Battle of Cowpens. In January 1781, Marion and his men ambushed a British force that was twice the size of their own. The British were routed, and Marion captured over 500 prisoners. The Battle of Cowpens was a turning point in the Revolutionary War, and it helped to secure American independence.
