That's why we've put together this guide to puppy development, month by month. In this guide, we'll cover everything you need to know about your puppy's physical, cognitive, and social development, from the day you bring them home until they reach adulthood.

Month 1: The Neonatal Period

The neonatal period lasts from birth to about 2 weeks of age. During this time, your puppy is completely dependent on you for survival. They will need to be fed every 2-3 hours, and they will need to be kept warm and clean.

Your puppy's senses are still developing during the neonatal period, so they will not be able to see or hear very well. However, they will be able to smell and taste, and they will be able to recognize your voice.

During the neonatal period, it is important to socialize your puppy as much as possible. This means exposing them to different people, places, and experiences. Socialization will help your puppy to become a well-rounded and confident dog.

Month 2: The Transitional Period

The transitional period lasts from about 2 weeks to 8 weeks of age. During this time, your puppy will start to become more independent. They will start to walk and play more, and they will start to interact with their littermates and other dogs.

Your puppy's senses will also continue to develop during the transitional period. They will start to see and hear better, and they will start to recognize their own name.

During the transitional period, it is important to continue socializing your puppy and to start training them. Training will help your puppy to learn basic commands and to behave appropriately.

Month 3: The Socialization Period

The socialization period lasts from about 8 weeks to 16 weeks of age. During this time, your puppy will be most receptive to learning and socialization. This is the ideal time to introduce them to new people, places, and experiences.

Socialization will help your puppy to become a well-rounded and confident dog. It will also help to prevent them from developing fear or aggression towards other people or animals.

During the socialization period, it is important to make sure that your puppy has positive experiences with everyone they meet. Avoid exposing them to people or animals who are aggressive or unkind.

Month 4: The Juvenile Period

The juvenile period lasts from about 16 weeks to 6 months of age. During this time, your puppy will start to become more independent. They will start to explore their environment more, and they will start to test their limits.

Your puppy will also start to develop their own personality during the juvenile period. They will start to show their likes and dislikes, and they will start to form bonds with specific people and animals.

During the juvenile period, it is important to continue training your puppy. You should also make sure that they are getting enough exercise and mental stimulation.

Month 5: The Adolescent Period

The adolescent period lasts from about 6 months to 1 year of age. During this time, your puppy will go through a number of physical and behavioral changes. They will start to reach their adult size, and they will start to develop their adult coat. They will also start to become more sexually mature.

Your puppy's behavior will also change during the adolescent period. They may become more independent and stubborn. They may also start to test your limits more.

During the adolescent period, it is important to be patient and consistent with your training. You should also make sure that your puppy is getting enough exercise and mental stimulation.

Month 6: The Adulthood Period

The adulthood period begins at about 1 year of age. During this time, your puppy will reach their full adult size and maturity. They will also become more settled in their behavior.

Adult dogs need regular exercise and mental stimulation to stay healthy and happy. They also need a healthy diet and a loving home.

Watching your puppy grow and develop is a rewarding experience. By understanding the different stages of puppy development, you can help your puppy to reach their full potential.
